Vancouver, BC – February 26, 2014 – Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC) is pleased to announce that Barbara Brink, Vice President of Applied Strategies Ltd. and member of JABC’s Board of Directors, will receive the 2014 Business in Vancouver Influential Women in Business Lifetime Achievement Award. Honourees of the Influential Women in Business Awards are influential leaders in their industry and the business community at large, committing time and resources to mentor other women in business and contribute their expertise on corporate and not-for-profit boards of directors.

“Junior Achievement of British Columbia was pleased to nominate Barbara Brink for this award”, says Jan Bell-Irving, President and CEO of JABC. “Not only has Barbara been an active Board Member for JABC since 2007 and a key founder of our Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame program, her numerous contributions to the community are unprecedented.”

Barbara has been the co-chair of the Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame Cabinet since its inaugural year in 2006. Thanks to her leadership, the gala remains in the top three list of events in BC and has raised more than $3.8 million since its inception.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of BC, it is with great pride and pleasure that I congratulate Barbara Brink for this Lifetime Achievement Award”, says Casey Forrest, Chair of JABC’s Board of Directors. “Barbara’s tireless work with JABC has immeasurably strengthened our organization and allowed us to reach significantly more BC students with free business and financial literacy programs. Thank you Barbara for your tremendous contribution to our cause.”

The Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame is only one of Barbara’s many accomplishments in her 45 years of community service. Barbara was also the driving force behind the creation and founding of SCIENCE WORLD, now better known as “TELUS World of Science”, which attracts thousands of students and tourists from around the world every year. She is a Member of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia, and has raised well over $300 million for her community during her career. Barbara continues to employ her innovative leadership on a daily basis as a JABC Board Member and serves as a source of inspiration for everyone at JABC.

Barbara will be honoured at an awards luncheon on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 and is profiled in this week’s issue of Business in Vancouver.
