Welcome Coast Capital Savings Volunteers!

Inspire & Mentor Youth through Dollars with Sense

Thank you for helping us to inspire the next generation of BC business leaders.

Coast Capital Savings is the exclusive sponsor of the Dollars with Sense program here in British Columbia and has been supporting the program since 2001. Volunteering to teach a Dollars with Sense program is an incredibly rewarding experience which allows you to develop professionally, as well as positively impact and inspire young people! Through the Dollars With Sense program, Grade 7-9 students get the vital tools they need to make smart financial decisions, live debt-free and become savvy investors. Students learn personal money management skills that they can apply to their lives … beginning now.  Students will learn about budgeting, how to be a smart saver and spender, investing, global currencies and safe online shopping.

Don Coulter, President and CEO, Coast Capital Savings.

Coast Capital Savings’ goal is to build a richer future for youth in our communities, and it is through this strategic partnership with Junior Achievement of British Columbia we can help impart the principles of good money management in a practical and simple way to young people across our province – paving the way for their future success and financial well-being.

In this one-day, interactive classroom program, students will:

•  Develop a money management self-profile
•  Learn what influences their spending
•  Discover how to be a SMART consumer
•  Calculate the cost of credit
•  Develop awareness about consumer rights, fraud and consumer protection
•  Identify their financial needs, wants and goals
•  Prepare a budget
•  Learn how to make their money work for them through thoughtful investing

By the end of the program, students will know how to evaluate their financial decisions against their goals. This prepares them to make smart, lifelong financial choices.

The Dollars with Sense program may be delivered in either four one-hour lessons, two two-hour lessons or in a ½ day workshop format. For more information, please have a look at jabc.ca and the JABC/Coast Capital volunteer video.   All of our current Dollars with Sense opportunities in Coast Capital Savings regions can be found below.

I just wanted to say thank you again for making it possible for me to help teach the Junior Achievement Dollars with Sense program. The sessions went great and all of the Grade 10 students were very eager to learn from someone in the finance industry and they asked great questions. I would recommend anyone who wants some diverse volunteer experience to look into the programs that JABC has to offer through Coast!”
