Awards & Scholarships

JABC is pleased to offer a number of awards and scholarships to our Achievers to recognize outstanding performance in a JA program. We are able to give away over $20,000 worth of awards and trips each year, thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters. High school and post-secondary students who have taken a JA program are eligible to apply. Carefully review the eligibility requirements for each award below and apply online.

JA Canada also offers national awards and scholarships worth over $30,000. See JA Canada awards and scholarships below for more information.

JABC Award for Oratory and Presentation Skills

Deadline to apply: March 26, 2018 at 11:59 Pacific Time

Oratory and presentation skills are keys to success in business and community leadership. This award recognizes achievement in the development of speaking and presentation skills which contributes to an individual’s future career. It is open to any senior-secondary or post-secondary student who has participated in a JA program within the past 5 years. This year, four (4) students will be awarded $2,500 each, to further their post-secondary education. Award winners  present their speeches at the annual Business Laureates of British Columbia Hall of Fame Induction Gala and Ceremonies on May 8, 2018.

This award is open to JA students in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley only.

Dr. Donald Rix Inspiring Business Excellence Scholarship

This award recognizes an Indigenous, Rural or Immigrant student who has demonstrated significant growth in business skills, learning skills, leadership skills and/or entrepreneurial skills. The winning student will receive a $2,500 scholarship towards post-secondary education in the academic or trades and technology career of their choice.

 

JABC Award for Excellence and Leadership

Leadership skills may be acquired and demonstrated in many different ways.  This award recognizes achievement in the development of effective personal and business management skills. The winner of the Excellence and Leadership Award will receive $2,500 to further their post-secondary education.

 

Jan Bell-Irving Award for Women’s Leadership

This award’s purpose is to inspire and encourage young women to lead at the highest levels, with heart.  It recognizes a female Junior Achiever who demonstrates the ambition to lead and the ability to do so with collaboration and kindness. The winner of the Jan Bell-Irving Award for Women’s Leadership will receive $2,500 to further their post-secondary education.

 

The Keg Spirit Foundation Next Generation Leaders Forum Award

This award recognizes significant progress made by individual students in developing networking and communication skills. Five (5) recipients representing each region in BC will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the Next Generation Leaders Forum, JA Canada’s international student conference held in August each year.

CIBC Student Company of the Year Award – Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley

This award recognizes excellence in teamwork and cooperation, creativity and innovation, profitability and viability, and outstanding planning and operation of a Student Company in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. The winning Student Company will receive an award of $3,000 for the team.

This award is generously sponsored by CIBC.

 

The Ledcor Group Regional Company of the Year Award

This award recognizes excellence in teamwork and cooperation, creativity and innovation, profitability and viability, and outstanding planning and operation of a JA Student Company outside of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley in British Columbia. The winning Student Company will receive an award of $3,000 for the team.

This award is generously sponsored by The Ledcor Group of Companies.

 

Celebrate Entrepreneurship Provincial Award

This award recognizes the Student Company that demonstrates the most innovation in their business. Innovative products, services or business models will be judged by a panel of experts. The winning Student Company will receive an award of $3,000 for the team.

This award is generously sponsored by the Ministry of Jobs, Trade and Technology.

 

CPA Profit Performance Provincial Award

This award will go to the most profitable student company. Profit will be determined using a standardized form which calculates gross revenues less cost of goods sold (before salaries, bonuses, dividends and charitable donations are paid) and determines the company that has generated the highest profit through their student venture. The winning Student Company will receive an award of $3,000 for the team.

This award is generously sponsored by CPA British Columbia.

Black Press Scholarships

JABC is proud to have Mr. David Black as one of our Business Laureates of BC. We encourage JA students interested in pursuing a business career to consider applying for one of 37 annual Black Press Scholarships of $5,000 to attend the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria.
