TELUS Community Board Supports Business Education for youth in Kamloops

June 25, 2014

Kamloops, BC – Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC) is pleased to announce that the TELUS Thompson Okanagan Community Board has donated $5,000 in support of business education programs for youth in the Interior.  This generous contribution will specifically go towards the Economics for Success day program, held at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC.
JABC’s Economics for Success program encourages middle and high school students to take a closer look at the advantages of staying in school and how the choices they make can positively impact their future dreams, aspirations and outcomes.  As one Economics for Success student said, “I learned [that] I need to have a realistic look on life and not expect everything to come to me.  I have to seize opportunities”.  This is only one of the lessons that prepares youth with the basics of work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy through Junior Achievement’s educational programs.

“The TELUS Thompson Okanagan Board is honoured to be able to assist our young people become more knowledgeable in business and provide the opportunity to support such a successful program,” said Bert Braybrook, General Manager of Kamloops/Cariboo, Customer Solutions Delivery.

The TELUS Thompson Okanagan Community Board’s partnership with Junior Achievement exemplifies their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people in their community.  The Economics for Success one-day program at TRU reached over 500 grade 9/10 students, and was a very memorable field trip for students who might not otherwise visit a university campus.  Students learned that success and education go together, through participating in program activities and listening to a guest speaker and motivational volunteer educators, becoming inspired by hearing the stories of successful adults who stayed in school to pursue their dreams.
