  • JABC Award for Oratory and Presentation Skills - $2,500

    Oratory and presentation skills are keys to success in business and community leadership. This award recognizes achievement in the development of speaking and presentation skills. This year, four students will be awarded $2,500 each to further their post-secondary education. Award winners will present their speeches at the annual Business Laureates of British Columbia Hall of Fame Gala.

    PLEASE NOTE: If you applied for this award in 2020, your application will be automatically carried over. The award wasn’t adjudicated in 2020 due to the postponement of the Business Laureates of British Columbia Hall of Fame Gala.
  • Eligibility & Requirements


    To be eligible for this award, you must:

    ⦿ Not have received this award previously
    ⦿ Have participated in JA Company Program, JA Titan or JA Be Entrepreneurial in the last five years
    ⦿ Reside in BC
    ⦿ Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
    ⦿ Provide a signed statement indicating how the funds will be used before they are released by JABC

    Requirements:

    You must submit the following:

    ⦿ Completed online application
    ⦿ 90 second video
    ⦿ Transcript of your speech
    ⦿ An updated resume
    ⦿ Signed JABC Media Consent Form

    If selected as a winner, you are expected to commit to the following activities:

    ⦿ Participate in a presentation coaching session with a JA sponsor
    ⦿ Present your speech at the 2021 Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame Gala Dinner & Induction Ceremonies (date and format TBD)
    ⦿ Provide a current headshot and brief biography (100 words max.) outlining your educational background and involvement with JA
  • Judging Criteria


    Your video submission will be evaluated based on the following:

    ⦿ Communication (voice level and tone; pace; flow and organization of thoughts)
    ⦿ Content (addressing the award topic; authentic level of interest demonstrated; personal opinion incorporated)
    ⦿ Presentation (eye-contact; posture and gestures; appropriate attire; authencity)
    ⦿ Quality of video (lighting and sound; neutral background; video resolution)

  • Notification and Recognition

    Winners will receive a certificate and a bursary cheque in the amount of $2,500 to further their post-secondary education. Winners will be notified in mid-to-late April.
