Welcome Coast Capital Savings Volunteers!

Coast Capital Savings is the exclusive sponsor of Dollars with Sense here in British Columbia and has been a supporter of JA British Columbia’s programs since 2001.

Volunteering to facilitate this program is an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing you to develop professionally and also positively impact young people in your community. Through this program, Grade 7-9 students acquire the vital tools they need to make intelligent financial decisions, understand how to live debt-free and become savvy investors. Students are taught about budgeting, investing, global currencies, how to be smart savers and spenders, and how to shop safely online. Youth who take this important program learn personal money management skills they can apply to their lives … beginning now.

In this interactive classroom program, students will

  • Develop a money management self-profile
  • Learn what influences their spending
  • Discover how to be a SMART consumer
  • Calculate the cost of credit
  • Develop awareness about consumer rights, fraud and consumer protection
  • Identify their financial needs, wants and goals
  • Prepare a budget
  • Learn how to make their money work for them through thoughtful investing

By the end of the program, students will know how to evaluate their financial decisions against their goals. This prepares them to make smart, lifelong financial choices.

This program may be delivered in full day, half day or multiple class visits. For more detailed information, please visit Dollars with Sense and check out the JABC/Coast Capital Savings volunteer video.

Coast Capital Savings volunteers and students from this past school year

The students today were fantastic! I was particularly impressed with one of the group’s budgets, as they thought out of the box, and ended up with a large surplus for their charity. They did a good job identifying needs, wants, and goals

Laura Martini, Coast Capital Savings

Thank you so much for the opportunity. I really enjoyed my time volunteering, especially being at Fleetwood Park as it was great to work at my old high-school. Dollars with Sense is such a great program and really fits with what drives me and how important it is to make a difference on one’s financial wellbeing

Raman Rai, Coast Capital Savings

I found out that I need a lot of money to live the way I want. and that I don’t want to get into credit card trouble.
