JABC is following the shift in the provincial COVID-19 response to a sustainable, long-term COVID-19 management strategy focused on immunization, self-management, and specific actions to protect those most at risk of severe infection. When invited to do so, JABC will continue to coordinate the delivery of in-person volunteer-led and volunteer-supported programs in school classrooms and communities.
Effective immediately, JABC Volunteers will no longer be required to complete the JABC Volunteer Agreement to ensure proof of vaccination, acknowledge the risk of illness, and agree to health and safety protocols.
Following the guidance of the BC Centre for Disease Control, JABC strongly recommends that volunteers who interact with children be fully vaccinated. Also, we remind JABC Volunteers that B.C. School Districts and independent school authorities have the ability to create policies and procedures on a range of measures related to employee and workplace well-being and health and safety, including a vaccine policy. We ask that JABC Volunteers continue to follow protocols and adhere to Provincial Health Officer (PHO) and regional restrictions.
When schools return from Spring Break, masks will no longer be required for students, staff and visitors. The decision to wear a mask or face covering is a personal choice for everyone and this choice should be supported and treated with respect.
JABC will continue to evaluate and modify program delivery methods to ensure alignment with all B.C. Government COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines.
Changes as of March 1, 2022
At JABC, we continue to acknowledge and support the B.C. Government COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines for K-12 settings along with those specific policies put in place by B.C. School Districts to serve students, educators, and the community.
Effective March 1st, JABC will return to providing in-person volunteer-led and volunteer-supported JA programs. When invited to do so, JABC will coordinate with the host educator to provide programming that is delivered in-class and in-person by a screened and trained volunteer. As before, JABC Volunteers will be required to complete the JABC Volunteer Agreement prior to entering the classroom, follow protocols specified by the district/school, and adhere to PHO and regional restrictions found here:
COVID-19 Safe Schools
COVID-19 Communicable Disease Guidelines for K-12
Additionally, JABC will continue to provide programs virtually to ensure JA educational programs are delivered when in-person volunteering is not permitted/available. As guidelines change, JABC will continue to evaluate and modify its program delivery methods.
With the developing spread of Omicron across British Columbia and to ensure the continued safety of all program participants, JABC is temporarily suspending in-person volunteering.
Those volunteers who are scheduled for in-person volunteering in January will be contact by JABC to arrange a shift to virtual volunteering. Alternatively, volunteers will be invited to reschedule to a time later in the school year.
Once classes resume following the holiday break, JABC will re-evaluate and will continue to follow all Public Health Orders and including regional restrictions along with school district and host organization guidelines.
