June 15, 2022 – Student Company Juggle is the recipient of JA British Columbia’s 2022 Celebrate Entrepreneurship Award. This $3,000 award is sponsored by the B.C. Ministry of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation and recognizes the JA student company that best demonstrates innovation.

Developed by a team of ten high school students, Juggle is a video game app that entertains youth while also increasing their awareness of the effects of ocean pollution. Players control a character, a sea turtle, swimming in the ocean and must avoid garbage to survive. In a fun and engaging format, this educational game teaches young students about the harm ocean waste brings to the environment and also encourages recycling.

“The team at Juggle has demonstrated what can be accomplished when young people work together on a tech project with innovation, creativity, and passion,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation. “We need young people to continue to follow their passion for technology, because here in B.C. we expect more than a million jobs to open up over the next ten years. Through our StrongerBC Economic Plan, we have a strategy to meet this challenge and make sure that people have the right skills to fill the jobs of tomorrow.”

Juggle was part of the 16-week JA Company Program that encourages high school students to build their own start-up. In the 2021-22 school year, students were placed in teams and worked collaboratively with others from all across B.C. to learn about human centered design thinking, creative product development, product life cycles, e-commerce, app development and more. Student companies must address one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
