In February 2018, JABC launched the first JA Company Program- After School focused on empowering girls’ entrepreneurial, analytical and innovative minds through mentorship from women in STEM fields. The goal of JABC’s Steminist Company program is to allow young women to see themselves in STEM careers and gain hands-on business, science, technology, engineering and math experience while building a network of women who are invested in their success.
JABC’s first Steminists cohort, Recycled Sounds, were the winners of the Ledcor Regional Company of the Year Award (June 2018). In October 2018, Recycled Sounds was selected by JA Canada to represent Canada at the JA Americas Company of the Year Competition in Lima, Peru.
From November 25-28, JABC’s Steminists represented Canada in an intense three-day competition against the top 20 JA Companies from 14 countries across the Americas.
While they didn’t bring home any awards, they brought home something even better: two weeks of life-changing experiences. They learned about global markets, saw 500 year old engineering feats that left them in awe of the Incan people, and gained a new appreciation for access to clean water and education.
