July 23, 2020 – Student Company Planture, based out of Vancouver, B.C., is the recipient of JA British Columbia’s 2020 Celebrate Entrepreneurship Award. This $3,000 award is sponsored by the BC Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness and recognizes the JA student company that best demonstrates innovation.

Planture is a mobile reminder app that sends users a daily notification with a task on how they can personally contribute to helping the planet.

“Congratulations to the remarkable young women from Planture. Their work and creativity is a great example of how tech and innovation can help build a better future,” said Michelle Mungall, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness. “Our government is grateful to JA British Columbia for providing skills and inspiration to the next generation of business leaders in our province.”

Planture participated in the JA Company Program Steminist stream, a tech-focused business program for female high school students. They received mentorship support through Accenture, a sponsor of the JA Company Program in B.C.

This student company was also a finalist in the 2020 Discovery Foundation’s Discover your Pitch, an investor pitch competition for JA entrepreneurship students. In addition, Planture’s CEO, Maria Smith won JABC’s 2020 Jan Bell-Irving Award for Women’s Leadership.  View Planture’s application video.
