Our Programs

JA British Columbia (JABC) has been proudly serving students across British Columbia for 65 years. Through alliances with educators and the dedication of volunteers, youth in grades 4-12 receive important educational programs and experiences thanks to the generosity of JABC donors and sponsors.

JA Programs & Capstone Experiences:

  • Focus on financial literacywork readiness entrepreneurship.
  • Are provided free of charge to all public, independent, and homeschooled students in every region across B.C
  • Align with B.C.’s new curriculum.
  • Have flexible delivery options. From in-class educator led to online student self directed, JA programs meet unique classroom needs.
  • Feature the option of welcoming volunteers to facilitate the lessons and activities. JABC will coordinate and schedule these trained professionals, community leaders and other qualified individuals who enjoy sharing their knowledge and real-life experiences with youth.
  • Include all digital and printed materials. Lesson plans, resources, workbooks and student certificates are all provided in order to deliver engaging JA programs & experiences.
  • Are also available in French.

More Than Money

  • Grades 4-5
  • Online or in classroom
  • Instructional time: 4 hours
  • Introduces students to the role of money, how it can be earned, saved & spent. Students develop a basic business plan, track financial gains and losses & explore important decision making. Includes newly added Economics for Youth content.

  • Helps students explore how businesses are created and what makes them thrive. Using games and multimedia, students learn about innovation, start-ups, and self-employment.

  • Students learn key elements of personal finance such as spending wisely, budgeting, saving, investing and using credit. By the end of the program, they will have a plan and goals for financial security.

  • In classroom, with option to include volunteer support
  • Instructional time: 10-16 weeks including sales days + wrap up
  • Students experience the excitement of planning and operating their own small business, giving them real-world skills to help them in their career path.

  • Students learn the essential components of launching a realistic entrepreneurial venture by developing a plan and pitching an idea for their own business.

  • Students explore the ways in which people save and invest for their future. The program includes interactive lessons and culminates in an online stock market simulation.

Stock Market Challenge

  • Grades 10-12
  • Prerequisite: Investment Strategies Program
  • An online stock market simulation, linked to live data from North American stock markets, that engages students from across Canada to apply investing principles as they manage their own portfolio. Enrollment in Investment Strategies Program is required.
