Our Programs

JA British Columbia (JABC) has been proudly serving students across British Columbia for 65 years. Through alliances with educators and the dedication of volunteers, youth in grades 4-12 receive important educational programs and experiences focusing on financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. JA programs align with BC’s new curriculum and are provided free of charge thanks to the generosity of JABC donors and sponsors.

More Than Money

  • Grades 4-5
  • Online or in classroom
  • Instructional time: 4 hours
  • Introduces students to the role of money, how it can be earned, saved and spent. Students develop a basic business plan, track financial gains and losses, and explore important decision making.

  • Helps students explore how businesses are created and what makes them thrive. Using games and multimedia, students learn about innovation, start-ups, and self-employment.

  • Gives students the hands-on learning experience of planning a business, producing and promoting their products, tracking their finances and managing a team.

  • Introduces students to personal money management skills including methods of payment, cost of credit, purchasing influences, online security, goal setting, budgeting, and the basics of investing.

  • Students learn key elements of personal finance such as spending wisely, budgeting, saving, investing and using credit. By the end of the program, they will have a plan and goals for financial security.

  • In classroom, with option to include volunteer support
  • Instructional time: 10-16 weeks including sales days + wrap up
  • Students experience the excitement of planning and operating their own small business, giving them real-world skills to help them in their career path.

Be Entrepreneurial

  • Students learn the essential components of launching a realistic entrepreneurial venture by developing a plan and pitching an idea for their own business.

Investment Strategies Program

  • Grades 10-12

  • Instructional time: 4 hours + online competition
  • Students explore the ways in which people save and invest for their future. The program includes interactive lessons and culminates in an online stock market simulation.

  • In this online program, students learn why businesses succeed and fail and what it takes to become an entrepreneur in the trades industry.

JABC TechWorks

  • Grades 9-10
  • In this one day event, students are introduced to the vast career opportunities in B.C.’s tech sector. Speakers, demos and hands-on breakout sessions showcase the latest in technology and provide guidance on education pathways.

  • Grades 10-12
  • Using live video conferencing, students engage with top BC executives in 45- 60 min. presentations, including a Q&A. Executives offer strategies to empower students to begin their journey to a successful career. Six feature events, one per month. Date and time TBD.

Stock Market Challenge

  • Grades 10-12
  • Prerequisite: Investment Strategies Program
  • An online stock market simulation, linked to live data from North American stock markets, that engages students from across Canada to apply investing principles as they manage their own portfolio.
